Learning From Nuclear Catastrophe
18. Juni, 18:00 – 20:00
A discussion with Nadja Schmidt and Aigerim Seitenova will take place on 18 June 2026 at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna, where Setsuko Thurlow will deliver a keynote address.
Setsuko Thurlow is a survivor of the Hiroshima nuclear bombing on 6 August 1945. She is one of the leading public voices raising awareness about nuclear weapons and their humanitarian and ethical dimensions. Her advocacy has helped shape discussions on nuclear disarmament by sharing her firsthand testimony of the atomic bombing and emphasizing the humanitarian consequences of nuclear war. In 2017, she delivered one of the Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speeches on behalf of ICAN. This event will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about how nuclear weapons can directly impact humans and engage directly with professionals and Ms. Thurlow’s firsthand experience.
Registration is required and can be found on the Diplomatic Academy Vienna website.
