SUMMARY:2018 Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is scheduled to hold its second session from 23 April to 4 May 2018 at the United Nations Office in Geneva. This will be the second of three planned sessions that will be held prior to the 2020 Review Conference. \nThe Preparatory Committee\, open to all States parties to the Treaty\, is responsible for addressing substantive and procedural issues related to the Treaty and the forthcoming Review Conference. The Chair-designate of the second session is Ambassador Adam Bugaiski of Poland. \nThe NPT entered into force in 1970 and was extended indefinitely in 1995. The Treaty is regarded as the cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and an essential foundation for the pursuit of nuclear disarmament. April 2018 \nnovum Wien Hauptbahnhof\nKarl-Popper-Straße 16\, 1100 Wien (Endhaltestelle Tram D) \nDie Stadt Wien vertritt traditionell kompetent und engagiert eine klare Linie gegen die sogenannte friedliche Verwendung der Atomenergie. In Österreich scheint es dazu keinen ernsthaften Diskussionsbedarf mehr zu geben. Das trifft allerdings deshalb nicht zu\, weil Nachbarstaaten eine andere Politik verfolgen\, die EU in ihrer Energiestrategie Atomenergie unter anderem als CO2-neutral sieht und fördern will und schließlich auch deshalb\, weil die sogenannte friedliche Nutzung mit zahlreichen anderen Aspekten untrennbar verknüpft ist – militärische Nutzung\, ökologische Auswirkungen\, humanitäre Folgen der Verwendung der Atomenergie bis hin zu damit ausgelösten bzw. verstärkten Flüchtlingsbewegungen sind Stichworte dazu. \nZiele: \n\nWissen über die Zusammenhänge ziviler und militärischer Verwendung von Atomenergie vertiefen und weitergeben\nAuswirkungen der Atomwaffen-Technik auch bei Nicht-Verwendung aufzeigen\ndie „humanitäre Initiative“ für ein weltweites Verbot für Atomwaffen unterstützen\nweitere Zielgruppen ansprechen und die Vernetzung der Akteure stärken\n\nZielgruppen: Wissenschaft\, Politik aller Ebenen\, Verwaltung\, Diplomatie\, NGOs\, weitere gesellschaftliche Akteure\, interessierte Mitbürger\, Medien \nZum Programm der Veranstaltung
